Cents forward Michael Regush to represent Canada West at 2016 World Junior A Challenge

The Merritt Centennials are pleased to announce that 18-year-old forward Michael Regush is among eleven BCHL players named to the Team Canada West roster for the 2016 World Junior A Challenge.

The tournament is December 11-17 in Bonnyville, Alberta.

Regush is in his second season with the Centennials and leads the team in scoring with 25 points (11 goals, 14 assists) in 30 games. He is committed to Cornell University for next September. In his first BCHL season, the Delta Hockey Academy alum posted 17 points (six goals, 11 assists) in 56 games.

“Michael had a strong selection camp, he showed the staff a strong work ethic every skate he was in. It’s something we see every day in Merritt,” said Centennials GM and Head Coach Joe Martin. “I was in attendance at the camp, I was impressed by Michael, and he deserves this opportunity 100 percent.”

Merritt has now been represented six times in the WJAC’s eleven year history. Cents players who skated for Canada West previously include Casey Pierro-Zabotel (2006, 2007), Reece Willcox (2011), Dane Birks (2013), and Jeff Wight (2013).

Canada West has won gold four times at the tournament (2015, 2012, 2007, and 2006). It opens this year’s edition of the tournament on December 11 at 6:30 pm PST against Switzerland.

All games can be watched online at www.hockeycanada.ca/wjac. TSN will broadcast the gold-medal game on December 17.
