Cents Fall To Express

POST GAME: The Merritt Centennials, (15-17-2-1), dropped tonight’s game vs the Coquitlam Express, (9-25-1-2), over in Coquitlam with a final score of 3-2.

It was the Express that opened up the scoring at 8:17 of the first period, thanks to Jack Graham. The Cents weren’t going to go down without a fight, and it showed, at 15:56 of the first, they tied it up with Henry Cleghorn getting the goal, getting set up from Chase Bell and Mathieu Gosselin. Cleghorn now has sixteen goals on the season, he also has a total of 34 assists and leads the team in points.

The game remained tied at one until the Express got the puck past Austin Roden, to take a 2-1 lead, that goal coming from Troy Robillard; just over a minute later, after a couple of attempts to get the puck past Roden, it was Lucas Wong that finally did and gave Coquitlam a 3-1 lead going into the third.

Again, the Centennials weren’t going down without a fight, Brad Cocca managed to get the puck past Express goaltender Clay Stevenson at 4:53 of the third period to cut the lead in half and make the score 3-2. Stevenson wouldn’t allow another goal after that one.

Roden faced a total of 23 shots while Stevenson saw 20. The Cents went 0/6 on the powerplay while the Express managed to go 1 for 6.

The next game action for the Cents goes this Friday when they travel to Vernon to take on the Vipers, pregame goes at 6:45 on Q101 with Jared Thomas and puck drop is set for 7.
