Cents Fall 7-2 in Vernon

Merritt, BC – October 21, 2009

Steven Weinstein, Bryce Kakoske and Kellen Jones each scored in the first half of the third period to lift the Vernon Vipers (15-1-0-0) to a 7-2 win over the Merritt Centennials (4-9-0-1) on Wednesday night.

Connor Jones with a pair, and Jonathan Milhouse also scored in the third as the Vipers win streak reached eight games while the Centennials remain winless away from the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena.

Dustin Johnson and Derek Hills had the Merritt goals as the Cents had a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Cole Holowenko made 40 saves in goal for the Centennials while former Merritt netminder Graeme Gordon, who was traded to Vernon in October of 2008, kicked out 14 shots to record his league-leading 12th victory of the season.

The Vipers outshot the Cents 47-16, including 18-0 in the third period. Merritt went 1-for-5 on the power play while Vernon was 3-for-7.

The Centennials next game is Friday night at home against Quesnel. The Vipers next action is Saturday, also at home to the Millionaires.
