Cents And NVIT Partner For Fitness Testing

Merritt, BC – The Centennials had a new back drop for Day 1 of their Main Camp as they partnered with NVIT to host the teams fitness testing.

The Cents made use of the brand new facilities at the NVIT Merritt Campus including the beautiful gymnasium as well as second story fitness equipment that overlooks the large multi-use surface. Led by Strength and Conditioning Coach Tyler Wowchuk, the Cents were put through the grueling beep test, standing long jump, steady bench press, and marathon V-ups.

Head Coach and General Manager Joe Martin says that the fitness testing is a great way to bring the team together after a long layoff.

“This gives some of the new players trying out with us an idea of what we do on a regular basis, and it gives our team a chance to bond and push each other to do their best during the testing and set the bar for the rest of camp. We’re extremely fortunate to have access to the beautiful new facility here at NVIT, and look forward to taking advantage of what NVIT has to offer in the future.”

President of NVIT Ken Tourand says that he’s excited to continue to grow the institutes partnership with the Merritt Centennials.

“It’s actually the first group that we’ve had into the new gymnasium which is exciting. Having the opportunity to partner with our local junior hockey team, have some of the players take classes with us, and of course encourage our students to take in some great junior hockey is a win-win for both organizations. We look forward to continuing to explore how the Cents and NVIT can work together to support our new partnership.”

Centennials Main Camp continues with intrasquad games on Tuesday and Wednesday before their first exhibition on Friday against Vernon at 7pm.
