2017-18 Season Preview

The Merritt Centennials’ home opener is just two weeks away! The BCHL regular season gets underway September 8th and the Centennials will kick it off at home against the Penticton Vees.

This year’s 2017-18 team is starting to take shape, with a few veterans — including the team’s number one goaltender, Jacob Berger — returning this season. With the addition summer signings of Ashton Stockie (GOJHL), Matthew Kopperud (POE) , Brendan Schneider (Albany Academy), Joey Berkopec (OJHL), and Jackson Munro (PJHL), it looks like a great and promising squad. The main camp was a great success with head coach and GM Joe Martin behind it all with the help of assistant GM and assistant coach Matt Samson, as well as new assistant coach Brandon Shaw.

The Cents held their main camp on the 21st and 22nd of August and saw a lot of talent. Returnees Zach Court, Chase Bell, Nick Wicks, Zach Zorn, Rylan and Mike Van Unen, Henry Cleghorn, and Tyrell Buckley showcased a lot of talent and helped the Cents hopefuls understand what to expect if they make the squad for this season.

On September 1st, the Cents will see the Chilliwack Chiefs come to Merritt for one last home exhibition game before the season starts on September 8th.

The final roster of the 2017/18 Merritt Centennials will be revealed on September 8th against the visiting Penticton Vees.
