Cents Forward Nicholas Wicks Nominated for BCHL Most Sportsmanlike Award

Merritt BC – The Merritt Centennials are proud to announce that forward Nicholas Wicks is the Interior Division nominee for the Bob Fenton Trophy as the BCHL’s Most Sportsmanlike Player. Wicks is second in scoring for the Centennials this season, two points back of Henry Cleghorn. Wicks has played 54 games this season and posted 12 goals and 32 assists along with just six penalty minutes.

Wicks is a native of Delta, BC and played with the Delta Hockey Academy Elite 15 team during the 2013-14 season. In 2014-15, he skated with the Delta Hockey Academy Prep team. The following season, he played with the Richmond Sockeyes of the PJHL and tallied 41 points in 44 games along with only six penalty minutes. 

Wicks joined the Centennials organization in 2016-17, playing in 46 games and posting 12 points (five goals, seven assists) and 15 penalty minutes. a full season, getting five goals, and seven assists and not getting a single penalty minute last season. He had one goal in seven playoff games with the Cents last season, notching no penalty minutes.

Wicks is up against Gavin Rauser of the Powell River Kings and Ben Poisson of the Prince George Spruce Kings for the Bob Fenton Award. 

Six players in Centennials franchise history have won the BCHL’s Most Sportsmanlike Award. They are Darrel Zelinski (1974), Shane Glover (1998), Neil Stevenson-Moore (2000), Brandon Campos (2006), Regan Soquila (2012), and John Schiavo (2015).
