Cents Split Weekend

POST GAME WEEKEND: The Merritt Centennials, (10-13-2-1), split this weekend’s games picking up a loss and a win. Friday night saw the Cents over in West Kelowna to take on the Warriors, (16-11-1-0) but dropping that game 7-2.

 

Goals for the Cents, came from, Henry Cleghorn and Christian Sabin. The Warriors had seven different goal scorers. Penalties really took a toll on the Cents with the team getting a total of 50 for that game.

 

Saturday night went a lot better for the Centennials as they beat the Trail Smoke Eaters, (19-7-2-0), in a thrilling overtime game. The Smokies opened up the scoring at just 3:55 into the start of the game with Andre Ghantous getting his 12th of the season. The Smoke Eaters jumped up to a 2-0 lead at 5:15 of the second with that goal coming from, Ross Armour, that being his 16th of the season, the assists coming from Jeremy Lucchini and Blake Sidoni.

 

The Cents got on the board at 18:54 of the second with that goal coming from Bradley Cocca, that being his fourth of the season since coming over to the Cents organization, assists drawing from Nick Wicks and Zach Court.

 

With just under 3 minutes left to play in regulation, it was rookie Brendan Schneider that tied things up and to also force overtime. Zach Zorn and Ashton Stockie drew the assists on Schneider’s sixth of the season.

 

For the Cents their overtime record was 1-2 and the Smokies overtime record was 2-1.

 

Just 3:07 into the first overtime it was Henry Cleghorn who became the hero for the Centennials putting the puck right past Brandon Wells and giving the Cents the 3-2 win.

 

Cleghorn is now the leading scorer for the Cents having 10 goals and and 13 assists in 25 games.

 

The next game action for the Cents is Friday December 1st at home once again as they welcome the West Kelowna Warriors and then head to Trail on Saturday for another tilt against the Smoke Eaters.
