Cents Mid-Season Check

The 2017-18 season didn’t start off the way the Merritt Centennials envisioned; dropping six games without scoring on the man advantage. The teams first win came September 27 when they downed the Surrey Eagles 2-1, kicking off a three-game winning streak with wins over the Cowichan Valley Capitals, and Prince George Spruce Kings.

The Centennials began showing some consistency through the month of October as they finished with a record of 4-4-2. Goaltender Jacob Berger started nine of the teams 10 games in October after an injury to Vincent Duplessis, racking up an incredible 321 saves while sporting a .915 save percentage and earning a Player Of The Week from the BCHL.

The acquisition of Austin Roden will surely ease Berger’s workload over the course of the season. In his only start with Merritt so far, he made 37 saves in a 3-3 tie with Alberni.

November is a slow month for the Centennials with just seven games scheduled. The team is making the best of their opportunities to get valuable points in the standings as they’ve grabbed five of a possible eight over their first four games of the month.

The next game action for Merritt is this coming weekend when they welcome the Vernon Vipers Friday and the Alberni Valley Bulldogs Saturday. Get your tickets at the arena on game day or stop by the Cents Marketing Office.
