Cents Alumni Birks, Teves, And Duhaime Attend NHL Development Camps

With all 31 NHL teams starting off their development camps this summer, three former Merritt Centennials are among the young players hoping to get a shot at “playing in the show”

Dane Birks (2012-2014) is currently at the Pittsburgh Penguins camp. Birks was drafted during his time as a Centennial, going in the sixth round, 164th overall in 2013. Birks played 112 BCHL games, putting up 9 goals, 32 assists for a total of 41 points. After finishing up his junior career, Birks played for Michigan Tech University from 2014-2017.

Josh Teves (2013-2015) is currently at the Calgary Flames camp. Teves played 57 BCHL games, putting up 5 goals and 28 assists for a total of 33 points. After his time here in Merritt, Teves played for Princeton University from 2015-2017 and is set to play another season for the Tigers this upcoming season. During his time as a Centennial, Teves won the RBC National Junior A Scholarship Award in 2015.

Brandon Duhaime (2014-2015) is at the Minnesota Wild camp. Duhaime played just one season in Merritt, playing 56 games, putting up 6 goals and 19 assists for a total of 25 points. After his season in Merritt, Duhaime split the 2015-2016 season between the Chicago Steel and Tri-City Storm of the USHL, and spent this past season playing for Providence College. Duhaime was drafted by the Wild, in the fourth round, in the 2016 NHL draft.

The last Centennial player to play in the NHL was Max Reinhart in the 2007-2008 season.
